HENDERSON OF GARDIE in the Parish of Bressay

  1. JAMES HENDERSON of Gardie, the second son of Magnus Henderson of Buness, died in 1651, having married Barbara, daughter of Andrew Gifford of Weathersta, and had issue:
    1. Magnus, his heir

    3. John
    4. Katherine, married Hosea Scott of Reafirth
  2. MAGNUS HENDERSON of Gardie, died in 1669, having married Catherine, daughter of William Craigie, and had issue:
    1. Ninian, his heir
    2. William
    3. James
    4. Margaret, married Charles Hoseason of Dalsetter
    5. Elizabeth, married Walter Dick of Wormadale
  3. NINIAN HENDERSON of Gardie, died in 1680, having married January 1657, Elizabeth, daughter of James Scott of Voesgarth, and had issue:
    1. William, his heir
    2. James
    3. John
    4. Elizabeth
    5. Janet, married William Craigie
    6. Grizel
    He married (second) Agnes Ross
  4. WILLIAM HENDERSON of Gardie was a Commissioner of Supply for Zetland, in 1696, 1698, and 1704. In 1703, he was siesed in the 11/2 merk lands of Beasetter in Bressay, on disposition by Magnus Bolt. He died 1737, having married (first) Janet, daughter and co-heiress of Laurence Williamson, shipmaster in Bressay, and had issue:

    3. Margaret, who married (first) Arthur Nicolson of Bulliesetter, and (second) Henry Rose, collector of Customs in Zetland
    4. Margaret, married James Craigie, and had issue: Margaret, Janet, Elizabeth, Barbara, and Katherine
    He married (second) Katherine, daughter of John Mitchell of Berrie, and widow of William Neven of Windhouse, (who married after his death James Stewart.) They had issue:
    1. William, bailie in Bressay, who married his cousin Katherine, daughter of Sir John Mitchell of Westshore, Bart., and had a daughter Elizabeth, and a son William, baptised 12th May 1739
    2. Jean, married in 1736, Patrick Cheyne, fiar of Tangwick
  5. MAGNUS HENDERSON of Gardie died 1st August 1753. He married Elizabeth, daughter and co-heiress of James Mitchell of Girlsta, and had issue:
    1. James, his heir
    2. William
    3. Barbara, died 4th June 1755, married 14th November 1751, William Nicolson of Bullister, and had issue
    4. Margaret
    5. Janet
  6. JAMES HENDERSON of Gardie, as only son in life of his father, was seised in 17 merks land in Culbinsburgh and Garth, in Bressay, in 1744, and was served heir to his father, on 19th November 1766, and to his grandfather, on 12th October 1766. He died 15th December 1799, having married 9th February 1756, Jean, eldest daughter of Henry Rose and Margaret Henderson, before mentioned. She was baptised 22nd August 1732. In 1763 he disponed his 622 merks of land in Bressay, Unst, and Yell, in security of a sum of £1400, and in 1767 his wife was seised in an annuity of 600 merks Scots from the 24 merks land in Noss and other lands in Bressay, extending in all to 244 merks. Dying without issue he was succeeded by his niece, Elizabeth Nicolson.
