NEVEN OF LUNING

  1. JOHN NEVEN of Luning, son of John Neven, second of Scousburgh, followed the family profession of the law and was a Notary Public. He is a witness to a charter by Hew Sinclair to Patrick Cheyne of Vaila, of the lands of Brebister in Walls, on 9th November 1632. He married Elizabeth Gifford, and had issue:
    1. John, his heir
    2. Andrew of Gremista, married his cousin Ursula Neven
  2. JOHN NEVEN of Luning, is a witness to the Disposition by Mr. Theodore Umphray, minister of Nesting, in favour of Elizabeth, only daughter of the deceased Mr. Laurence Umphray, minister of Walls, his brother, of the lands of Garth and Collasetter on 31st January 1674. He married Janet, daughter of Robert Bruce of Sumburgh, who survived him, and had issue:
    1. Ursula, served heir portioner, along with her sister, of their father on 8th March 1711, married her cousin Andrew Neven of Gremasta
    2. Elizabeth, married Dr. John Ogilvy of Stove
  3. LAURENCE NEVEN of Luning and Gremasta, born 1647, admitted Notary Public 1670. He appears as a witness to a letter of Wadset by Thomas Cheyne of Vaila to Mr. Theodore Umphray, on 27th March 1672. He married Elizabeth Sinclair, who is designed his relict in 1682.
