Information supplied by Janet Levy Whitelaw's descendants:
- Her birth certificate, dated 28 Nov 1881 at East Linton, in the parish of Prestonkirk in the former County of Haddington (now East Lothian). Her parents were James Whitelaw (mason's labourer) and Janet Levy, who had been married on 9 Sep 1881.
There was a note written on it that she had been baptised on 20 Jan 1882.
- Her death certificate, dated 28 Jan 1963, stating that she had died at home at 206 Dalry Road, Edinburgh of coronary thrombosis, at the age of 81.
- The birth certificates of her two sons, also their school reports, etc.
- A bible which had been a Christmas present from Lady Strathmore (signed on the flyleaf).
- A prayer book which had been a Christmas present from Alice Balfour (signed on the flyleaf).
- Various photographs covering a large time period, indicating (amongst other things) that her parents were still alive in the 1930s, and that her sons had known several of their cousins in early childhood. Some of these were postcards. Various annotations on the backs of the photos give dates, names and addresses.
- A bead necklace, possibly amber, which appears in most of the photographs of their grandmother after 1930.
She was named as Janet on her birth and death certificates, but as Jessie on her sons' birth certificates and other documents.
