It may be proper to state that the object I have had in view in the following Notes has not been to collect materials for a County Genealogy brought down to the present time, but to preserve notices, now generally forgotten, of the older families connected with the County, and now, in many instances, extinct. The Notes were commenced many years ago, and have been continued as opportunities of adding to them occurred, and every care has been taken to render them accurate, the sources of information having been County and other records, title-deeds of landed property, and, as far as possible, family documents. The materials here collected may be of use to future inquirers.
