NOTE - The earlier years are approximated from the Orkneyinga Saga. The ancestors of the Earl of Moeri were Norwegian grandees ab initio by virtue of their descent from Odin, the great Pagan-Pontiff, "God, father, and warrior-priest of all the Dacians". The autonomous maritime principality known as the jarldom of Orkney, and the Earldom of Caithness, are the most ancient in geographical Britain, both of these dignities being in existence coeval with the reign of Alfred the Great, and centuries antecedent to the authentic mention of others. The Earldoms of Atholl, Angus, and Stratherne occur in the earliest Scottish records.

* Also Earls of Caithness (inclusive of Sutherland till after the 31st Earl)
** Also Earls Palatine of Stratherne
