JAMES SINCLAIR (1) was born in the parish of Penicuik, Scotland, and there he spent his life. In 1798 he married Martha Hartley. Issue: -

  5. JAMES, born 1807.
  6. HANNAH, twin, born 11th April 1809, died young
  7. JEREMIAH, twin, born 11th April 1809.
  8. ROBERT born 1810; married Anne Robertson.
  9. MARTHA, born 1812; married David Hunter.
  10. MARY, born 1814; married John Richardson.
  11. ISABEL born about 1816; married John Forsyth.
THOMAS SINCLAIR (3), born Penicuik, 6th October 1800; married, first, 13th May 1825, Margaret Robertson, who died 1844, and secondly, Janet Cornell. Issue: -
  1. ANNE, born 1826; died 1828.
  2. JAMES.
  3. ANNIE, born 1829; married Frank Mackin; resident Cleveland, Ohio.
  4. THOMAS, born 1830; married Elizabeth Thompson; both deceased
  5. JEREMIAH, born 1831; died 1894.
  6. MARGARET born 1833; married Thomas Dickson; both dead.
  7. HUGH, born 1834; married Christiana Flucer.
  8. JOHN, born 1835; married Mary Baine; both dead.
  9. ALEXANDER BROWN.
  10. MARTHA, born 1838; married George Leighton; she is dead.
  11. ELIZABETH, born 1840.
  12. DAVID, born 1841; is dead.
  13. CHRISTIANA, born 1842; died 1845.
  14. ALISON, born 184S.
  15. ROBERT, born 1850.

JAMES SINCLAIR (14), born Penicuik, July 11th 1827; married, first, Eliza Lindsley, who died in Scotland, and secondly, Margaret Brown. He went to the United States about 1855, finally locating in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1858-59 he was in the employ of Joseph Parker, one of the oldest blotting paper manufacturers in the States. He did much to make it a success, and was a member of the firm at his death in 1876. No children.

ALEXANDER BROWN SINCLAIR (21), born Penicuik, September 5th 1837, went to the United States in 1857. Since the war he and some of his family were engaged in the paper business. He married Augusta Clark, 20th January 1861, and resides New Haven, Connecticut. Issue: -

  1. ISABEL ARLINDA, born 1861; married John Henry Cannon; resident New Haven.
  2. THOMAS, born 16th March 1863.
  3. WILLIAM, born and died 1865.
  4. JAMES, born 18th May 1866; resident Westville, New Haven.
  5. ALEX B. born 1872.
