THE SINCLAIRS OF OVERBRUGH, HARRAY

I MAGNUS SINCLAIR IN OVERBRUGH witnesses the purchase of Netherbrugh in Harray by Magnus Sinclair of Gorne 15th October 1617, and on the 13th July preceding a Magnus Sinclair in Brugh obtained security from Alexander Flett in How and William Flett in Netherbrugh, all in Harray.

II ROBERT SINCLAIR in Overbrugh is a witness 8th May 1634, to a charter of Netleter, Harray, by John Sinclair in Huntskarth, and Katharine Flett, his wife:

III JOHN SINCLAIR of Overbrugh is down in the 1653 valuation of Harray. On the 4th March 1662, compeared [appeared with] a famous man John Sinclair, elder in Overbrugh in Harray, John Sinclair younger there his son, and John Sinclair his oy [grandson], and John the elder made over Overbrugh to John, his son, and John, his grandson - Saving always his liferent and that of his spouse Margaret Lina. This Overbrugh was succeeded by his son

IV JOHN SINCLAIR of Overbrugh, who amongst many others is als of Captain Robert Irving 7th August 1673. The next year, 1st December 1674, he acquired lands in Overbrugh and Bimbuster from Robert Burwick. John Sinclair is referrid to as in occupation of Overbrugh 17th May 1679. His son

V JOHN SINCLAIR OF OVERBRUGH witnessed a transaction in the matter of lands in Rusland 1st December 1674, and is perhaps the John in Harray horned [outlawed] and inhibited in 1697, when there are also Magnus and James Sinclair in Harray, and Harie Sinclair in Costa for Harray lands, etc. His successor was

VI JAMES SINCLAIR IN OVERBRUGH, who compeared 11th June 1706, with his spouse Katharein Wilson (relict of Andro Flett), to whom he gave his house and lands of Overbrugh in liferent. On the 25th September following the Chamberlain-Depute obtained a decree against, amongst others, James Sinclair in Overbrugh in Harray, John Sinclair there, John Sinclair in Grimistone there, etc., while on 16th February 1719, the Earl of Morton's chamberlain sues, amongst others, James Sinclair in Overbrugh, John Sinclair in Gremistone, Margaret Sinclair in Huntscarth, Elspeth Spence (relict of George Sinclair) in Rusland, Katharine Sinclair (relict of James Louttit the elder), etc., all in Harray.

VII WILLIAM SINCLAIR IN OVERBRUGH, and Katharine Spence, his spouse, obtained from Dr. Hugh Sutherland of Kirkwall a disposition of udal lands in the town of Overbrugh with houses, etc. - as the same have been tenanted by the said William Sinclair till now, 19th June 1739.
